Caleta de Fuste is situated on the east coast of Fuerteventura, close to the airport and the capital city Puerto del Rosario. The town is one of the big tourist centres of Fuerteventura. Numerous shopping facilities, restaurants and good sports facilites promise diversified holidays. Caleta de Fuste is particularly popular with English tourists.
You will often find different names for "Caleta de Fuste" on island maps or road signs. Commonly used names are, for example: "El Castillo", "Castillo", "Caleta de Fuste" and also the recent name "Costa Caleta".
"Caleta" is the Spanish word for "bay" and "Fuste" means "fishing boat".
The town name "Castillo" stems from a tower (close to the harbour) which was built around 1740. The tower once acted as a deterrent against pirates and now forms part of an apartment resort.
Caleta de Fuste belongs to the municipality of Antigua and is approx. 7 km away from the airport. Despite the proximity to the airport, there is only little noise from the planes to be heard.
The centre of the town is the big beach bay with its light-coloured sand, the yacht harbour and the town's high street with many restaurants, bars and shops. Since the town centre is relatively young, there is no ancient old town.

The beach of Caleta de Fuste is not as beautiful as the dune beach of Corralejo or Sotavento beach; it has other advantages, though:
The beach is a perfect place for children. Due to the protected bay, there are no high waves and the little ones can untroubledly play in the sand.
